About Us
Coordinated by the World Bank, GDLN is a partnership of over 120 recognized global institutions (Affiliates) in some 80 countries. The Affiliates are as diverse as the Korean Development Institute, the Kenya School of Government – eLearning and Development Institute, the Energy and Resource Institute in India or the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico.
Collectively, Affiliates put on 1000+ learning sessions a year that range from training courses and informal brainstorming sessions to multi-country dialogues and virtual conferences. GDLN learning specialists in these organizations collaborate in designing customized learning solutions for clients. With increasing links to in-country networks, GDLN’s reach now extends to more than 500 access points around the world.
GDLN Organization
The Global Development Learning Network is currently organized into three levels:
Global Level
At this level, there are two components: the GDLN Global Board, which is the decision making and advisory body for all questions related to the Network, and the GDLN Global Secretariat, which is housed at the KDI School of Public Policy and Management and acts as the Network’s central business. The Secretariat plays both a coordinating function and an administrative and external coordinating function for the global network, where it oversees global governance issues, business development, branding and communications, internal communications, technology and quality. As part of its mandate, the Secretariat supports the GDLN Global Board in the execution of Board decisions that are of relevance for GDLN Affiliates worldwide.
Regional Level
As the Network grows, regional GDLN associations in Africa, the Americas and Asia-Pacific have been established with their own localized missions and structures.
Country Level
Organizations that formally joined the Network are called GDLN Affiliates. To extend their reach and access to the network of experts within countries (e.g. in Brazil, China, Ecuador, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Mongolia and Russian Federation), these Affiliates partner with in-country networks to provide connectivity to the most remote areas. Typically, these are national research and education networks (NRENs) that connect universities within a country, or they can also be public sector networks that connect municipalities across a country.
Services
GDLN is present in most major cities and in many secondary cities. We offer direct access to local, regional and international development experts, provide tailored learning programs, knowledge or technical assistance programs, and state of the art facilities for multi-point videoconferencing and internet-based learning.
Our Global Network offers advanced information and communication technologies connecting people working in development worldwide. By applying tools and services developed in the field of distance learning, our GDLN Affiliates enable universities, non-governmental organizations, and private sector entities and all other clients interested in knowledge sharing, to communicate without boundaries and learn from each other’s experiences.
